My rant about Cops!

We moved 2 months ago to a town, out in the middle of nowhere, that has a population of 139- with us that makes 143. We love the peace, quiet, and freedom out here. We felt like we were free to live as we wish...at least until we both got pulled over this last week! I didn't have my cruise control on and was driving home from Visiting Teaching in Ogallala, which happens to be an hour away. Visiting Teaching lasted 2 hours and it was getting late, the kids and I were both tired, and I was on edge waiting for one or both to start crying. Apparently, without noticing, I got a lead foot and was driving 71 mph in a 60 mph zone. There wasn't another car around. It was after 6:30pm and I was driving in the middle of nowhere...and yet a cop had to pull me over!!! LAME! I wasn't unsafe, I wasn't hurting anyone and yet I ended up with a $220 ticket! To top it off, the officer took forever to write the ticket and both children started crying. Let's just say, it wasn't my day. Thankfully, Brittany and J.C met us at home. I hadn't planned on seeing either of them for a few more hours. It was wonderful for her to already be there and for J.C to stop working on his thesis early. I needed a breather after that. The ticket was so much because somehow my 5 year drivers license is only a 2 year license..I'm going to call on that, and I didn't have my registration in the car, although the license plates are on our vehicle which we have only had for a few weeks and have already registered it, like good citizens should! Why, when you try to stay out of trouble do the cops have to come bother you?! Don't they have something better to do with their time. If they don't, then maybe we don't need them!
